To ensure your study runs smoothly and that participants can complete their submissions, your external study (e.g., your Qualtrics survey) must include one essential component and may optionally include participant ID tracking:
1. A Completion Logic at the End of Your Study (Required)
At the end of your study, you must provide participants with a way to confirm their completion on our platform. You have two options, both of which can be found in your study's configuration page on MobLab Research:
Option A: Provide a Completion Code
- Display a unique code on the final page of your study for participants to copy and paste back into our platform.
- This code is generated automatically when you create your study.
Option B: Use a Completion Link
- Provide a special URL that, when clicked, automatically redirects the participant back to our platform and marks their submission as complete.
- This link is also generated automatically and can be found in your study configuration.
💡 Recommendation
Option B (Completion Link) is generally easier for participants and reduces the chance of errors, as they don't need to manually copy and paste a code.
2. Recording the MobLab Research Participant ID (Optional but Recommended)
While not required for basic study completion, capturing the MobLab Research Participant ID is essential if you plan to:
- Award bonus payments based on performance or quality
- Link participant behavior in your external study to their MobLab profile
- Make payment decisions based on specific responses or actions in your study
⚠️ Important Note
The Participant ID is the only way to connect a participant's work in your external study back to their MobLab Research profile for bonus payments or behavioral analysis.
How to Capture the Participant ID
You have two methods to obtain the participant ID in your external study:
Method 1: Ask Participants to Enter Their ID
- Add a text input field asking participants to enter their MobLab Research Participant ID
- We provide each participant with their unique ID when they access your study
- Place this field early in your survey for best results
Method 2: Receive ID as URL Parameter
- We can automatically pass the participant ID as a URL parameter when directing participants to your external study
- Your survey platform can capture this parameter automatically (e.g., using Qualtrics embedded data)
- This method reduces participant effort and potential errors
💡 Implementation Tip
If you choose Method 1, add a required text input field asking: "Please enter your MobLab Research Participant ID:" at the beginning of your survey.
