Use this feature to quickly create a new study based on a previous one. It is the perfect tool for running variations, enlarging your sample size, or conducting longitudinal studies with the same group of participants.
How to Duplicate a Study
You can start the duplication process from two locations:
- From the Project Page: Find the study you wish to copy in your list of studies. Click the menu icon (three dots) and select "Duplicate."
- From the Study Configuration Page: When you are viewing or editing a study
in
CONFIGUREDstatus, the "Duplicate Study" button is available in the right-hand sidebar.
The Duplication Modal
After clicking "Duplicate," a window will appear with several options that you must configure.
1. Select Target Project
Choose the project where the new, duplicated study will be created. By default, it will be the same project as the original study.
2. New Study Name
Provide a name for your new study. The system will automatically suggest "[Original Study Name] (Copy)," but you can and should edit it to be more descriptive.
3. Duplication Purpose (Automatic Participant Filtering)
This is a critical step that allows you to pre-configure how participants from the original study are treated in the new one. Choose the option that best matches your research goal.
Longitudinal Study
- Choose this if: You want to re-invite the exact same participants from the original study for a follow-up.
- What it does: It automatically applies a filter to your new study so that only participants who were approved or completed the original study will be invited.
Enlarge Sample
- Choose this if: You need more data for the same study but want a completely fresh set of participants.
- What it does: It automatically applies a filter to your new study that excludes all participants who took part in the original study. This guarantees you will not have duplicate respondents.
Neither of the Above
- Choose this if: You simply want a copy of the study's settings (compensation, description, URL, etc.) but intend to define a completely new set of participant filters.
- What it does: It creates a clean copy with no participant filters applied. You will configure all participant targeting manually on the study setup page.
What Happens Next
After you click the "Duplicate Study" button:
- A new study is created in
CONFIGURED(draft) status within the target project you selected. - All settings from the original study (description, URL, compensation, compatible devices, etc.) are copied over.
- The participant filtering will be pre-configured based on the "Duplication Purpose" you chose.
⚠️ Important
Always review all the settings in the new draft to ensure they are correct before you launch.
💡 Pro Tip
Use "Longitudinal Study" for follow-up research with the same participants, and "Enlarge Sample" when you need more data from different people.
